Son Rompe Pera Presented by the Rhythm Foundation

Cumbia is the new punk; say the three brothers who make up Son Rompe Pera. Born and raised in the outskirts of Mexico City, the Gama brothers are keeping alive the rich legacy of marimba music running through their family. Originally performing alongside their father at local events as kids, they now find themselves at the forefront of the contemporary international cumbia scene with their sonic explorations of the classic marimba. The band urges listeners to their feet with their unique style of garage-marimba-cumbia rock, played on the historic marimba like no one has ever heard or seen before. The group releases music for ZZK Records. Opening set by Venezonix, the passion project of Andres Ponce (Elastic Bond). Ponce, a native of Venezuela, has been collecting classic Afro-Venezuelan vinyl and sounds (often saving them from obscurity). The project puts his own producer-spin on traditional instruments and rhythms with futuristic beats and electronic textures. The band's album was released on Nacional Records.
